“A BEAUTIFUL MESS” started a morning, when my partner woke up crying, and feeling bad about it. I held her while mentioning her tears had a place, and weren’t wrong. It also speaks about the end, like a kodak moment of the relationship at the time. The music, from a time when I was listening to Gal Costa’s “India” and Gang of Four “Entertainment!” As the first single of PAMPA’s third record, “A Beautiful Mess” is not only one of the most ambitious tune we’ve recorded (Barrett Jones, our producer, had a lot to do with this) but also what has been developing into a unique PAMPA sound; the blend between Rock, and Latin music. A similar example is “Maniobrando” from “La Contumacia” which is a blend of Neil Young & Crazy Horse, with Uruguayan Tablados and Argentine tangos. The sonic arrangement of the tune gives it a unique sound, with Lori Goldston (Nirvana “Unplugged”) on cello, and Barrett Jones as a producer, and on 12 string guitar. Loris melody brings the song to a closing in such a beautiful way, while Barretts sensitivity of melody, but awareness of the driving immediacy of the rhythms, give the song an effective flow that underlines a solid structure. All these elements give us what might be PAMPA’s best pop tune. Sounding unique, while emoting from a shared memory of it. Listen to this song once, and you will experience your attention noting the tune. Listen to it twice, and you’ll be humming its melody.
